What is the Earth Charter?

(Reprinted from a non-internet news source which wishes to remain anonymous)

"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
"And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

                                        Revelation 13:1-4

1. The Earth Charter is one step in a series of goals which will culminate in a global tyranny, controlling every phase of life upon earth.

2. The instigator, designer, and promoter of the coming one-world system is Satan, the god of this world. Satan, called the dragon, has been working for his sinful desires recorded in Isaiah 14:13-15.

"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
"I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
"Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

3. All of his labor has been done subtly, although his plan has surfaced several times. He used a murderer, Cain, to attempt to build a utopia on earth without God. It consisted of religion, industry, fine arts and education (Genesis 4:16-24).

4. The Babylonian empire was another prototype of Satan's desired one-world system or global village (Genesis 11:1-9).

5. A one-world tyranny is the ambition of the Roman Catholic system known as, "...MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." - Revelation 17:5

6. "One of the long standing goals of the Masonic New World Order seems finally within grasp: its one-world church, in the making for over 150 years, is about to become institutionalized...

"The wheels of time and destiny have now brought the world to the brink of the actual fulfillment of a crucial moment in Bible prophecy. What John saw and described is now being prepared for a literal presentation on today's global stage."(1)

7. The cloak of subtlety is now laid aside. The masks are off. Satan's cohorts have neither need nor time for pretense. They are boldly moving the props into place for the upcoming scene of Satan's globalism. His plan of a utopia on earth without God has surfaced in full bloom. Supposing their achieved victory these fiends speak boldly of what brutal plans they have for any who oppose them.

1893 - Chicago - First meeting of the Parliament Of The World's Religions.

1920 - The International Congress of Religious Liberals called for a League of Religions to parallel the League of Nations.

1945 - The birth of the United Nations (UN).

1986 - Gorbachev invites the leaders of the world's religions to Moscow.

1987 - The UN Commission on Environment and Development (UNCED) called for the creation of a charter that would "prescribe new norms for state and interstate behavior needed to maintain life and livelihood on our shared planet."

1988, Nov. 5 - The invited leaders of the world's religions met in Moscow's Bolshoi Theater. Billy Graham spoke there.

1992 - The Earth Summit in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Maurice Strong, former Secretary General of UNCED led that meeting. An Earth Charter was discussed, but nothing was agreed on. Agenda 21 was produced. Agenda 21 is a mammoth, detailed blueprint for "sustainable development" - meaning a global eco-socialist regime controlled by the UN.

1992 - The Millenium Summit - The Commission on Global Governance (CGG) was established.

1993 - Chicago - The second meeting of the Parliament of the World's Religions convened. They attempted to create a "Global Ethic".

1994 - Maurice Strong and Mikhail Gorbachev, chair of the Green Cross International, breathed life into the failed attempt at a charter in Brazil. Their idea was to include spiritual insights from the world's religious traditions.

1995 - Sept. 27-Oct. 1 - San Francisco. The State of the World Forum. Sponsored by the Gorbachev Foundation.

1996 - An Earth Charter advisory group on the religions was established to coordinate involvement of the world's leading religious and ethical thinkers. Contributions have been received from more than 78 nations and 380 universities, as well as from Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Confucian, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Indigenous Peoples, Jewish, Taoist and Shinto traditions.

1997 - On June 23rd, Stanford University played host to a gathering of 200 delegates from scores of religious bodies around the world. Among the assembled were "Christian ecumenical leaders, Black Muslims, American Jews, Australian aborigines, California pagans, South African Hindus, Thai Buddhists, British Baha'is, Catholic priests, Indian Sikhs and other spiritual lights from across the spiritual spectrum," reported the San Francisco Chronicle. The purpose of the gathering was "to begin working on a charter for an international interfaith organization, tentatively called the United Religions."

2000, MAy 22-26 - The Millenium Forum - Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) seeking to establish a new world vision and global decision-making process.

2000, June 26 - URI Global Charter is signed. Hundreds of delegates from 44 countries and 39 religions around the world met in Pittsburgh June 26 at Summit 2000 to sign the United Religions Initiative Charter. This was the birth and basis for a unified world religion - a counterpart to the UN. The URI Charter begins: "We, people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions, and indigenous traditions throughout the world, hereby establish the United Religions Initiative to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence, and to create cultures of peace, justice, and healing for the Earth and all living beings." Could URI be the one-world religion of Antichrist in embryo?(6)

2000, August 28-31 - Millenium World Peace Summit of religious and spiritual leaders - including Ted Turner, honorary chairman, Gorbachev, Maurice Strong, General Colin Powell, Steven Rockefeller, Jesse Jackson. Also involved is the Vatican, Muslims and Wicca. These are to discuss and celebrate interfaithism in light of the new millenium.

2000, Sept. 6 - New York, NY - United Nations Millenium Assembly and Summit - one of the most important events of the year. Thousands of leaders from around the world will gather in New York City to take part. It is at this point that solid new directions on the implementation of global government are expected, including possible UN Charter revisions. [Ed. Note - This is from the July/August issue] It is hoped that a parallel People's Assembly (a People's World Parliament) will become a permanent feature at the United Nations, where Non-Governmental Organizations from around the world would have a voice in the creation of a new world civilization.

2000, Sept. 4-12 - New York, NY - Gorbachev's State of the World Forum, in conjunction with a host of UN agencies, will convene its annual gathering of world leaders to correspond with the UN Millenium Assembly. Discussions will focus on the future of the United Nations and increasing its authority through world law and ICC.

1. The charter outlines four general principles, which include respecting the Earth and life, caring for the community of life with understanding, love and compassion, building free, just, participatory and sustainable societies, and securing Earth's bounty and beauty for present and future generations.

The Earth Charter is fundamentally an attempt to replace the reigning corporation-friendly, free-trade global ethic with one that is ethically, democratically and religiously informed. Such a charter views ecological devastation and massive poverty as signs, not of painful transitions on the road to prosperity, but as unconscionable and inexcusable tragedies - with zero redeeming value. (2)

2. To address the global environmental crisis, insisted Gorbachev, humanity must embrace "a new environmental legal code rooted in the Earth Charter...a kind of Ten Commandments, a 'Sermon on the Mount' that provides a guide for human behavior toward the environment in the next century and beyond." (3)

3. Soviet influence - The UN's Earth Charter, a "people's treaty" scheduled to be submitted to the General Assembly in 2002, was created under the direction of former Soviet dictator Mikhail Gorbachev and Canadian industrialist Maurice Strong. At the Millenium Forum, Stephen C. Rockefeller, a member of the Earth Charter Commission and chairman of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (the tax-exempt foundation that funds much of the radical environmentalist movement), described the Earth Charter as "an attempt to forumlate an integrated legal framework for all sustainable development and environmental law." The Earth Charter is a "declaration of interdependence and responsibility, [and] a universal code of conduct," according to Rockefeller.

The Charter is a "soft law" document, continued Rockefeller, a "statement of values" that will undergird the global eco-regime.

The text of the Earth Charter asserts that "we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny," and must therefore create "a global partnership to care for Earth." (4) "...the Charter refers to the human population as merely part of a greater community of life" and enjoins "humility regarding the human place in nature." In his remarks at the Millenium Forum, Rockefeller pointed out that the Charter is "the first international document to affirm that individual living creatures - animals, plants, and micro-organisms - are worthy of moral consideration...quite apart from their value to human beings," and he predicted that "there are going to be very difficult decisions that have to be made when the rights of human beings clash with the obligations human beings have to other living beings - species, but also individual living creatures."

In 1994, Mikhail Gorbachev predicted that the Earth Charter would be "...something that no one would be allowed to violate." Gorbachev and the other drafters of that vile document seek to overturn the created order as described in Genesis, in which humanity was a separate, special creation of God, entrusted with stewardship over the lesser orders of life. In place of this biblical worldview, the Earth Charter would install a variety of pagan pantheism in which humanity is part of a democratic biosphere administered by the UN's priesthood of Gaia.

Rockefeller explicitly acknowledged that the Earth Charter is the distillate of a pantheist worldview. He confided to his audience at the Millenium Forum that he was inspired to participate in drafting the charter by a July 4, 1994 address by former Czech President Vaclav Havel describing the need for humanity to understand that "our destiny is not dependent merely on what we do for ourselves, but also what we do for Gaia..." According to Havel, "we are not here alone for ourselves alone, but we are an integral part of higher, mysterious entities against whom it is not advisable to blaspheme." Havel's gauzy pantheism, recalled Rockefeller, was enthusiastically "seconded by President Gorbachev" and it was decided to encapsulate that "spiritual vision in an Earth Charter..."

The Earth Charter thus offers old Marxist proposals in a new pantheist setting. The document demands the promotion of "social and economic justice," including "the equitable distribution of wealth within nations and among nations." (4)

1. UR spokesman Barbara Hartford told The New American that the Stanford conference was intended "to begin the process of creating community among diversity, to examine the ongoing changes in the planet and how we will deal with each other in the new century....We're also beginning the process of drawing up a charter for the organization and thrashing out the specifics of a Global Ethic."

To that end, Bishop Swing also consulted with Hans Küng, the Swiss theologian who authored the "Declaration of a Global Ethic" which was presented at the 1993 Parliament of World Religions in Chicago. A brief examination of Küng's handiwork suggests that the UR is less about uniting religions in the cause of peace than about harnessing them to serve the interests of globalism.

Küng's Global Ethic describes itself as "an irrevocable, unconditional norm for all areas of life, for families and communities, for races, nations, and religions," and insists that acceptance of its tenets is a requirement for being recognized as "authentically human." Although the document is silent about man's duties to God (in fact, the word "God" never appears in it), it contains very specific directives regarding "global responsibility": "Self-determination and self-realization are thoroughly legitimate so long as they are not separated from human self-government and global responsibility, that is...responsibility to fellow humans and for the palnet Earth." The Global Ethic also dispenses with property rights by dictating that "no one has the right to use her or his possessions without concern for the needs of society and Earth," and that schoolchildren must be taught that their freedoms are limited by the needs of the "common good".

The Global Ethic also obliquely addresses the subject of religious "fundamentalism" bu suggesting that religious leaders who "stir up prejudice, hatred, and emnity toward those of different belief...deserve the condemnation of humankind and the loss of their adherents." While no rational person would defend "prejudice, hatred, and emnity," would this language apply to Christians who carry out the biblical commission to evangelize the world? Küng has written elsewhere that "no regressive or repressive religion - whether Christian, Islamic, or Jewish, or of whatever provenance - has a long-term future," suggesting that religious traditions not attuned to the sensitivities of radical ecumenism are slated for extinction.

The agenda of the NGO "superpower" is breathtakingly audacious. On behalf of "civil society organizations from more than 100 countries," the Millenium Forum Declaration outlines "a common vision" of "globalization for and by the people."

"In our vision we are one human family, in all our diversity, living on one common homeland," continues the document. This global "homeland" is ruled by a "strengthened and democratized United Nations," which enforces "a fair distribution of the earth's resources" and imposes "peace and human security, as envisioned in the United Nations Charter..." The Declaration updates and globalizes the Communist Manifesto by demanding that the UN undertake "purposeful action to redistribute wealth and land, to construct a safety net and to provide free access to education" in the name of "poverty eradication."

The document also calls for the UN to "restructure the global financial architecture" and to "impose new forms of taxation, such as the Tobin tax" - a proposed UN surcharge on international financial transactions. To achieve "Justice for the 21st Century," the Declaration urges the adoption of the Earth Charter in fulfillment of Secretary-General Annan's call for "a new global ethic," and creation of a permanent UN International Criminal Court (ICC).

If the plans outlined in the Millenium Declaration are carried out, business will be very brisk at the ICC. The Declaration refers to "the universality, indivisibility, and interdependence of all rights, civil, political, social, economic, and cultural," and calls for a global crusade against "racism, fascism, xenophobia, homophobia, hate-crimes, ethnocide, and genocide" - thereby designating moral opposition to perversion a human rights violation. Further, the Declaration demands an end to the "insulation from human rights accountability of non-state actors, ranging from transnational corporations and international financial institutions to fundamentalist civil society organizations and criminal syndicates..." (emphasis added.) This is to say that under the vision described in the Declaration, religious "fundamentalists" would find themselves in the dock before the ICC to be held "acocuntable" for offences against UN "law." Not surprisingly, the Declaration rounds out this sketch of a global despotism by calling for the UN "to establish ready policy and peacekeeping forces."

Taken together, these proposals would invest the UN with every critical element of sovereignty: A territory (the entire world); the power to collect taxes; the power to make and enforce global laws; a mechanism for trying and sentencing those who disobey global laws; and a standing army to impose the world body's will on those who resist.

Elements of Global Socialism

In other "civil society" documents referred to during the Millenium Forum, the nature of world government being pursued by the UN becomes much more vivid. It would be a globe-spanning socialist regime of virtually unlimited powers. And it would enforce a Soviet-style "culture of peace" through mandatory disarmament of all except those who are enforcing the UN's will - the UN's "Peace Force" and various national security establishments subservient to it. That "culture" would also entail ubiquitous globalist/socialist indoctrination through UN-controlled religious, cultural, educational, and media institutions. Values, practices, and institutions rooted in biblical teachings would be eradicated and supplanted by eco-pagan principles in the UN's Earth Charter. (4)

During the AIESEC Alumni International Congress held in San Jose, Costa Rica on October 21-24, 1999, participants considered to be leaders of today's generation explored how they can promote the Earth Charter initiative through their work and further define their own vision. AIESEC is expected to continue promoting the Charter in various ways.

2. Mikhail Gorbachev - The 1995 State of the World Forum was sponsored by the Gorbachev Foundation. The title of the event was "Toward a New Civilization: Launching a Global Initiative."

"Among the 400-plus cohorts from 50 countries were former Secretaries of State James Baker and George Schulz (both co-chairs of the forum), former President George Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President Askar Akaev of Kyrgystan, former President Oscar Arias of Costa Rica, Prime Minister Tansu Ciller of Turkey, Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel, former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and SOuth African Vice President Thabo Mbeki.

"Additional participants included: Worldwatch President Lester Brown; New Age gurus Fritijof Capra, Jeremy Rifkin, Willis Harman, Deepak Chopra, Robert Muller, and Matthew Fox; Marxist poetess Rigoberta Menchu; Earth Council President and billionaire eco-warrior Maurice Strong; Microsoft wizard Bill Gates; media mogul Rupert Murdoch; futurists Alvin Toffler and John Naisbitt; Senator George Mitchell; Archer Daniels Midland CEO Dwayne Andreas; computer tycoon David Packard; Esalen founder Michael Murphy; motivation superstar Tony Robbins; Men's Warehouse CEO George Zimmer; chimpanzee expert Jane Goodall - not to mention Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carl Sagan, John Denver, Shirley MacLaine, Dennis Weaver, Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, Theodore Hesburgh, Timothy Wirth, Max Kampleman, Milton Friedman, Randall Forsberg, Saul Mendlovitz, and Alan Cranston." (5)

San Francisco's 1,480-acre Presidio park has already become the location for the Gorbachev Foundation U.S.A. and there that organization has taken residence in the Admiral's House.

Mikhail Gorbachev has said straight out to the world that he is a Leninist, and a Leninist he will remain. In almost those very words, in fact, Gorbachev told the Moscow cadres of the CPSU in November of 1989, "I am a Leninist, devoted to achieving the goals of Leninism and the worldwide Leninist association of all workers under the banner of Marxism." (1)

The Charter is a "soft law" document, continued Rockefeller, a "statement of values" that will undergird the global eco-regime. As such it is a companion to a "hard law" treaty, a proposed "New Covenant" for management of the global biosphere - which encompasses everything on earth - which was created by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) in 1995 and awaits approval by the UN.

The text of the Earth Charter asserts that "we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny," and must therefore create "a global partnership to care for the Earth," which will be defined by "an international legally binding instrument on environment and development" - that is, the IUNC's "New Covenant." Significantly, the Charter refers to the human population as merely part of "the greater community of life" and enjoins "humility regarding the human place in nature."

In his remarks at the Millenium Forum, Rockefeller pointed out that the Charter is "the first international document to affirm that individual living creatures - animals, plants, and micro-organisms - are worthy of moral consideration...quite apart from their value to human beings," and he predicted that "there are going to be very difficult decisions that have to be made when the rights of human beings clash with the obligations human beings have to other living beings - species, but also individual living creatures."

Once again, the purpose of the "soft law" Earth Charter is to prepare the way for a binding "New Covenant," which the UN would enforce as global law." (4)

1. Satan's one-world system is rapidly emerging. After the Earth Charter becomes the Earth Covenant. This may well be the covenant of Daniel 9:27a which Antichrist confirms with Israel for seven years.

"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:..."

2. The Lord and Saviour comes for His bride before Antichrist is revealed. The coming of the Lord for His bride is at hand.

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Luke 21:28)

"Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not." (Luke 12:40)

"And at midnight there was a cry made. Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him." (Matthew 25:6)

3. Are you ready? Christian, are you busy for the Lord?
